After several decades in various stages of development — and one remarkably half-assed, low-budget film adaptation — one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes finally gets his blockbuster due with “Captain America: The First Avenger,” which follows the titular super-patriot (played by Chris Evans) on his journey from scrawny GI to shield-wielding World War II badass. Sound like a fun time at the theater? Good news: Marvel’s already working on a sequel.
One good “Green” deserves another, wouldn’t you say? I was really hoping this was going to be attached to the print of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1” that I screened on Tuesday night, so that I could see it on the big screen, but this’ll have to do, I reckon. I’d be lying if I said that Ryan Reynolds doesn’t come off a bit too smarmy in the early moments of the trailer, but as the proceedings progressed, I realized that it was supposed to be some of Hal Jordan’s legendary cockiness. I think the CGI stuff looks cool, but, again, seeing it on the big screen is really going to make the difference. At the very least, though, Kilowog looks awesome.
Michel Gondry’s take on the classic hero…and by “classic,” we meet that 95% of people under the age of 30 have never heard of him…arrives on January 14, 2011. I’ve tried to keep my expectations realistic, since the idea of Seth Rogen as a superhero just seems wrong somehow, but damned if this doesn’t look pretty cool.
